hey guys, I need your help really bad.

I need to do a project in my biology class, that's my project, a sickness that can turn people into stone.

a few years ago, I read on a newspaper said that, a girl had change into stone by the error of an emzyme that make all skin cells change into bone cell, and, pretty much, a statue had been created.

I REALLY NEED information about this sickness, this forum is the only one that I somehow have contact with other and English is the only place that allows, therefore, I post this here

thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks.

The disease that you are asking for is commonly known as scleroderma, (a chronic autoimmune disease associated with the over-activation of the immune system - it doesn’t stop when it should), it's a skin disease that cause the thickening, hardening, or tightening of the skin, blood vessels and internal organs by depositing an increased amount of collagen to the targeted organs. Scleroderma is chronic disease but it has many forms, there are at two type, which is localized ( target only certain part of the body such as the musculoskeletal system and the skin) and generalized/systemic targets many regions such as the heart, the lungs, the kidneys, the skin…etc…all at the same time. And it spreads very fast. However, you should nail down your research to a specific type of disease of scleroderma so you don’t have to do like a 10 pages research or something. For the localized, it consists of two types known as Morphia (thickening of oval shaped patches on skin) and Linear (band of thickened skin in areas such as the arms, legs or forehead.) For the systemic, there are three of them, limited scleroderma, diffuse scleroderma and Scleroderma Sine Sclerosis (this last one is very rare, so not a lot of people know of it). Limited scleroderma occurs gradually and affects the skin and later may affect internal organs, such as esophagus, lungs or intestines. Diffuse scleroderma develops more suddenly, with skin thickening throughout the body. Internal organs can also be affected. For the scleroderma Sine Sclerosis, it is the same as the diffuse scl but doesn’t have skin thickening.

However, the cause of these desease is unknown so far, and it is not caused by enzyme error. But it is thought to be that the body produces too much of a protein known as collagen, collagen is a structural protein of the connective tissues primarily function in support of skin, tendon, bone, cartilage and connective tissue.

And I have never known any case that turn a girl into a statue yet. The disease render people useless and inactive because of the hardening skin but never heard that one totally become stone. Maybe it's so rare that I never heard of them . Anyway, good luck on your report. For a detail report, you should do a google search and gather information from there, this is just what I remember from my course, so they are not very specific. But hope that help.

Mimosa, I owe you one,

this is real, I read about it like 4 or 5 years ago on "an ninh the gioi" or something like that. at first, there was a picture of a praying "statue", and I remember that was a girl, he was praying before going to bed, but the sickness happened so fast that her could not do anything.

I remember exactly that the cause was like what I said at the first post, an error of an enzyme.

I kind of like this topic, I'm reminded when a girl in my English class did an book report about Harry Porter and the Chamber of Secret.

I want to do this for my anatomy class, I have to do an 20 mins presentation, I need more information, but when I go to google, I haven't had any information about this sickness, all I've had so far are a bag of crap.

I need more of your help, thanks

peace out!

I dunno, about bio science..but I heard about that in 'the strange Doctor"
Otherwise,I like some games, for example hero, with Medusa queen, with the ability to turn her enemies in to statue.
But what purpose when you try to acknowledge that information,Artanis??

i'm concerned in Bio abit little more than you guys but i don't think this 's a pretty place to decaim it at all . you can gather many useful information on Net by typing any word inwich your assign involved . there 're e-scientist magazin also some Group always discuss 'bout General Science including Bio ofcause , tsk they're great ! Actually , i used to join in kidda forums when i was a secondary school boy .i found it interesting to ask alots of question of strange unreasonable Scientific events especially migraculous Human abilites . These forums, almost of them were classifized into so many different ranges then i could easily access to specificed fields i wished . your desire , it's amazing that i had the same .i remember reading an article wich had curious-maker title .so excited was i that i crushed into a searching machine looking for the subject i'd read . it guided me to a Group whose people both friendly & helpful indeed.i recieved a lot of knowledge such as the solid cells bone circumstate wich make men "turn into statues". it's kidda confusion at that time 'coz i didn't understand all they said though, however, the Infor were still great ..
now it has been 2 years since i left all of them behind against my own will. sorry i can't supply anything related Bio 'coz time 's taken my track of mind and i do don't wanna discuss of it neither , it 's kidda hurt .

I need this kind of information for my presentation in my Anatomy class. basicly, I kind of late therefore all normal sicknesses have been taken by other classmates, but I like to do something special,

I really like sciences, therefore if you guys know any forum about science (English or Vietnamese) that would be really nice of you.

to Hank Williams: 'sup, man, everyone that has stayed in this forum for a while could tell who you are, by look at you signature.

need more information, working on Minosa's idea.

@Artanis: haha, kinda funny, I forgot about my signature :)) ... Why don't you choose the Bird Flu instead of this sickness?
Forums about Science? :-? I'll see to it!
By the way, long time no see, your English is better and better, that's why you almost disappear all the time. ;)
