I hope this is the place where can help you understand more about the way native speakers use English. Yes, they use many many idioms in their speech.
Please tell us some idioms or proverbs (and where they come from) you know to help us much better.

well I only know some:
_The pot is calling the kettle black: say something bad about people that you can say it to yourself
_Cut off the middle man (proverb): To do something yourself rather than asking other people
_The short end of the stick: The worst side of an unequal deal

uhm, once bitten twice shy:u can guess the meaning
-nothing ventured nothing gained, and no pain no gain by the way
-to bead the lion: co vao hang hum moi bat duoc cop
- to have memory like sieve ( check this plz)
- to play footsie with somebody ( haha)
uhm, do u have ngu ngon esop, check this too, you will be satisfied
