What do you wish for to improve our English forum?

Seems like this forum doesn't attract people's attention much. Do you think it's getting boring?
Common, people, tell me your opinions how to improve our English forum. All of you can give me some advices about anything. If the advices look good, and within my bounds of possibility, I'll do that right away ;).

Yeah...it’s getting boring... few members ...When an interesting topic was set..few mems took part...like “20/11 Teacher’s Day” of troc...”How to give up smoking” of Black (I did not ‘cuz I have no exp in that)... I know lots of mems just read ‘n do not like post in here.

Look like every topic tends to become a talk of a mems group who knew before ‘n it make others feel “lạc lõng”...’n they wouldn’t like to “talk”.

No many interesting topics...just love, lady...There’re only these things in our lives ?

When I take part in here...I’d like to acquaint with all of you first ‘n practise my bad skill at English then. But I haven’t got any opnions about my faults or any one’s faults in grammar, syntax or using right words from you..guys who good at English as Hank, Anaconda, Wolf, Cigar.. etc.. :p. I think guys in here do not mind about that...you can correct our faults ‘n it’ll make us better. I think so...I’m also happy to know more slang words, the way you “talk” English from all of you ..I’d like to learn more from all of you, men. That’s all I thought.

Since the vast majority of residences of GVN are from VN, and thus, Vietnamese is their mother tounge, it is not easy to gather their attentions, especially in this sort of forum. It's not that they are not interested in talking with each other in English, it's just that they might not know what to talk about, and who they talk to. Even though most of people who visit, anticipate, contribute to this website have quite a bit of English on communication basis, they are still quite bounded in particular subject, such as movies, sports, life, pen pal, etc...In addition, vocabularies is also a big hindrance which plays a big factor in the way of communicating. Therefore, casual visitors will find this place rather boring, unattractive, and negative. However, I have found that Vietnamese people are crazy about soccer, which is also a type of sport on the mainstream now, and so this is a very good time to discuss about soccer. For example, we can talk about Vietnamese's soccer in the future; we can talk about the upcoming world cup in 2006; we can talk about the what if in term of Vietnamese's soccer on a global scale, etc... Furthermore, Christmas is coming, we can talk about what kind of gift we should buy for our friends, relatives. We can talk about place of interest for Christmas and New Year. We can talk about what we like about food, what we love in term of gifts...just to inform our friends. A lot more we can talk about. Nevertheless, keep in mind that seasonal topic is always more interesting and is easier to participate than the life long topic.
Above are just my own opinions to the forum, in hope that it will make this forum more enjoyable. Other than that, I'm just a newcomer who love to have fun sometimes.

I think the main problem here is "we some people here is going to school everyday, and they have no time to post here for long time, and this makes our box boring like someone here said before.
Correcting your mistakes by telling you in posts? I think this will makes some people affraid of posting here. I think the best way to improve your vocabulary and stay away from mistaken words is "We open a new topic for who is new, and they can use little Vietnamese to post their questions. We can help them in such that way. The new people when come here, we see us using English so good and they feel affraid.
I will tell you more but now I must leave my class room.

Common, don't be shy, buddy. We're all Vietnamese, and who dares to be sure that they never make mistakes in using English? I'm dam-n sure that I'm one of the worst guys in here :p, so that I feel so shame with my English sometimes (then "my English's pretty bad, so don't laugh at me" :D). Making mistake here doesn't mean a thing. Don't we come here to improve our English skill? Then don't be shy!

Yeah, you're right. Many times I've thought that I should create some topic about these, but I've not been sure that people will be interested in them.

Lotsa people don't wanna join in here cos they think they're not good at English, in other words, they're not confident much huh? And sounds like you have the same thought as cigar, that's good!

To Alone Wolf: Yup, just like justwonder, you mean that. You people haven't known that I used to try to attract people come here when this English forum was created. I posted many topics into many boxes in order to do this. However, it was uncuccessful.

I guess I can know what you were trying to do when this box was created. Yes,, in the first time when we had this box created. No people came here because they were affraid of their English skill. And what did a mod can do at that time? He MUST post reply to people to attract them. I used to do this when I joined to vnwebgame with a same job there, is moderator of English box. And know, when I am an admin of my forum, to attract people to post in my forum, I always must reply to everybody.

Hank Huynh, I saw you have done well in this forum as in vietwings.net. You posted so lot there and here to attract people. I was once your victim in Music box, you invited me to come here, and now I am proud of that I am a mod (a bad mod, who knows nothing about games but little in English). I did like you did in this summer and I have 4 friends, BROOM, AURON, Linh Vu Tru and troc, after that we met Anacode, lemoney, mars and ciga, they are people who always post here!

Now, to attract people, I think I will reply all topics of your like before to make people happy, excited. I have not come to any boxes in this forum except this box. For 3 months, I just only posted here. I am a mod of this box, my responsibility is to not let this box sad or die like some one said.

Last 2 days, I have lots things to tell you, but I must leave. Now, I forgot all ^_^. But now, I won't say, I just do it!

Alone Wolf has said it all! According to a research conducted by a group of psychologists and psychiatrists, together they have found an interesting result: everyone, no exception, that always feels lonely and left out, even though one is the happiest looking folk in the world, one still fears that he/she is not attractive enough to the others. Then again, they also have found that everyone, no exception, always feels that he/she is the center of the universe, and thus, one will ask for attention from others more than one will pay to the others. What does this mean? It means that when someone speaks, he/she needs someone else to listen to. When someone is in trouble, he/she needs someone else to help, to take care of him/her, to comfort him/her, and to encourage him/her to move on. This, somhow, is what this forum is missing. I understand that being a Mod, an Admin is not easy at all. These people are always being pushed from both sides; bearing others' problems unreasonably; going through others' businesses without willingness; interfering in others' privacy reluctantly. Therefore, there is nothing other on earth that is frustrating and pathetic as being a leader; a Mod, an Admin in this case, particularly. However, being a Mod, an Admin, here after will be known as leader, one must realizes that those who are being leaded, are just kids, regardless ages, races, educational backgrounds, personal histories, so on and so forth. How do we deal with kids? We don't spoil them, but we don't ground them, too. We have to find out what they want. We have to take time to get to know them. We have to force ourselves not to let them know that we are tire of them, and that we only want to get rid of them ASAP. I know that everyone is busy with a lot of things in their lives on a daily basis. However, once one accepts his job as a leader, one must knows that one has to have something to give, and that one must sacrifices something else.

Back to the main dispute, I think, please keep in mind that this is just my own plain idea, that you have to spend more time on what you are doing, especially in this forum, where you are the leader, and everyone else is your kids. You should spend more time to get to understand them; ask for their opinions, reward them for their ideas, encourage them to express themselves without being shy, and so on. You also should let them know that you are always by their sides to back them up, and that you are always willing to forgive them for their wrong doings. There is a simple way to do this. Log in everyday, five minutes, ten minutes are enough if you don't have time. Then post something interesting, especially about yourself, to attract them. Kids are always curious about their leaders. If people come to visit this forum and see that their leaders are here, by looking at the msg and spot your nick, it will give them the motive to reside here more frequently. You figure yourself why. For instance, if you go home and you don't feel like it's a family of yours, will you still want to be as part of it? Let consider this forum as your family, and you are the head of the household, and try your best, see what you can do and don't forget that we are always behind you to...backstab you :) just kidding.

Last but not least, I want to point out that you are kind of sluggish in term of replying to members' msg. It's the best way to ask them to leave. I'm serious, since I have enough exp. in this field, I know what I am talking about and I know what to suggest others to do. So, if you think that my words are worth your time, then I am glad and I am more than happy to talk more. However, if my words are making no sense to you as you skim through them, then I'll back off and I promise you won't hear from me again. I'm looking forward to torturing your brain more. :)

P.S. Trust me, I'm not spending times to write trash. In fact, I have been through this numerous times, and I know that I am saying the right words.

Well, I've really loved this box since the day it was born. At that time, this box was excited, and full of members here, most of them are Vietnamese living abroad, or even foreigners. But what a pity, I can't figure out what happenning with this box, it's been getting boring since then. The day I became a new mod for this box, it's such a nice surprise :), but I know that my English is not good enough to be a leader, maybe cos I was doing so many impressive things.
That's interesting, the advice that justwonder has given me was the one that I tried to do in the past, furthermore, I opened a lot of topics in hot boxes, I made many polls in order to attract people. After that, this box was a little fun, people came here with happiness, they discussed with each others in peace.
Nowaday, I really don't know why, all of them have gone away :(.

OK, what will you think if I make this box as a small mother-forum? I mean in this box, you can find some rooms that have the same meanings with boxes outside the forum index :). For example, "Games", "Music", "Sports", "Anime-Manga",...

To Alone Wolf: Hey, don't talk like that, man. You're really expert in games ;), not only English.

To justwonder: I have to say "thank you" with you, buddy. Do that impress me much? :) Don't ever think that people don't care about your post, man. Man, I'm touched!! :) Anyway, since I am welcome here, I won't hesistate to talk more. Don't get me wrong, though. I'm not going to talk nonsense. All that I have expressed right here, in this forum specifically, are mostly from my own experiences. I know that dealing with people who are trying to be kids, who are pretending to be kids is much harder than dealing with the real kids. I understand this, and on behalf of the rest of the folks, I, and we, really do appreciate your efforts. Why is it easier to deal with real kids than the pretending-to-be ones? Because real kids have the pure souls. They have never been contamminated by the reality, they have never been exposed to the cruelty, while the pretending-to-be have been through all these. Nontheless, that's not the end of the world. Everything has its own bad and good features. The thing is how to find their good features, so that we can help them to improve what is considere to be good.

Most of the time, people are shy to express themslves for two main reaons:
1. Everyone, no exception, is afraid of their own fears. They are afraid of their own weak points that will make people laugh at them. They are afraid to show their feeling because they don't know if their feeling will be respected, insulted, or ignored. These characteristics are also known as self-respect. (I will try to use more common words in order to make my messages are more understandable. However, sometimes, I can't help but to use some categorized words. So, please bear with me as I will explain the meaning of the words I use in the followed sentences.) Those who have been living in a dysfunctional family will build the self-respect more solid than the others, and thus, make them are more diffcult to get along with. The only way to deal with these type of people is to make them mind-opened. How do we do it? We carry out this mission by encouraging them to talk about themselves more; but first, talk about yourself to them before they will talk to you about themselves.
2. Everyone, no exception, always feels that they are right on everything, though somewhere in their thought, they know that they are wrong, but they will never admit it. How do we deal this these type of people? First, be sure to let them know that they will not be serverely punished for their wrong doings. That they know that they will be, somehow, forgiven for what they have done wrongfully. More importantly, be sure to let them know that no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, but everyone will has the chance to correct the mistakes they have committed.

Having said that, if I were you, I would never follow all the rules strictly. Nothing is absolute. I have wandered through other forums of GVN, and I have found something sad about them. Most, not all, but most of the leaders in others forum are likely to take the advantages of being a leader: banning members without giving them a chance to explain, touting, polishing the leaders themselves as icons, dragging behind them a load of followers and frequently making a big deal out of it. Needless to say, you know what will happen and in fact, it's happening now, right here, everyday, in almost every forum of GVN.

That is why peopel left their families. They left because they don't feel they are part of the community. They left because they don't see their benefits for staying. They left because they are only here to have fun, but unperspectively, they got themselves involved into endless and senseless arguments.

So now, to get them back, it is not an easy job. However, you have to prove yourself to them that you are not giving up, that you are not a quitter, that deep down in your heart, you want them to stay with you to share happiness, sadness, and to help you to get through all the troubles. Everyone has a heart, and their hearts will be touched if you know how to get along with them cleverly, and sincerely. I believe no one will leave you as long as they see that you don't want to leave them, to isolate yourself from them. Good luck and be brave!

P.S. I haven't written this much for quite a time, because I'm getting lazy as I'm getting old. However, watching young folks struggling all the time, I hope that my tiny knowledge will provide them an aid, even a little, to get through all the obstacles and to move on. You're right, I did spell hesitate incorrectly, but did I edit my msg before I post? No, I didn't. And you know what, the way you correct people, is kind of laughing at them. You could have said: "I'm sorry, maybe I'm wrong, but does hesistate is spelled as hesitate, instead?" Does it sound better? Mod, Admin alone can't do all the works. Sometimes, they need help from someones who are good at something, like you, to give them a hand. Unfortunately, it's not happening. One more thing, Nonetheles = Nevertheless. Again, I spell this adverb incorrectly, I'm terribly sorry.

Rules? Are you sure that you've never broken the rules? If the rules of GVN were strictly enforced, I'm sure that there are only few members left, plus about several Mods., Admins.

People are sentimental, aren't they? By the way, I think, maybe I'm wrong myself, too; but is sentiment is a noun, not an adjective, and thus, cannot be placed behind Verb TO BE? Anyway, let's go back to your msg's contents. You made a funny joke by saying "I'm really sorry for Exp Substraction!" Yes, sometimes, if it is necessary, then it should be done. Do you know what the most dangerous thing in an argument? That one of the two sides does not want to admit its faults no matter what. Thus, making the argument goes endlessly and causing the conflict between the two gets more complicated unpredictably.

Last but not least, I'm terrible at English, too. So, please correct me if I make mistakes and I will try to learn them, and to avoid them. Thank you!

I'm glad to see all of you here though I've met lots of god damn things lately in my jobs. Just come here, and feel free to talk, that's such a great gift for us :).

I think we must correct.... no no no.....just point out something about the way people use English here, such as never use short language (r u ok?......something like that) or we should have some topic where we can post some essays, or paragraphs about something we like in order to find out how well we write English. Perhaps your toipic is funny to post, but it does not attract me! I used to post much, many posts here, I remember that one day I posted 100 posts. However, I recognize that I made my topic, my box became a place to fish! I feel regret. Therefore, I must think clearly before I post or reply someone's topic. I don't want to reply without soul, feeling in those posts.

Yes, I know my responsibility in this box. I must make it exciting, but not by post much. I am, however, falling deeply in playing games. I can play games all days and spend less time on Net and check forum. Long time ago, I did not take any games except FF and Re. Now, I am return to my real style, a child who likes playing games!

When you went away with your studying, this box seemed to lack funny, after that, auron baximus did not come here too because of his stuying at Thailand. I know Chrono is busy with some game boxs in GVN.

I told some people who came here after you were absent. They came here and give me their birthday and went away. I still hold their birhtday in my note. And I can tell you exactly who they are.

For example: in this month, we have one person's birthday. He is Mage, 02/28.

I came here to learn in first times, at that times, I enjoyed discussing with everybody about love, stusying, life,... I was happy at that time, besides, I am have lots free time at that time. Today I got enough troubles, no need to get more. My school has some problems in their minds. I viewed my grades and knew that I passed a class level 4, but now, they registered me to study level 4 again while my friends who studied level 4 with me passed too, and he only took Toelf class. How can it be? Because of this, I ingored and did not take a web program class. When my parents knew what I have done, They yelled me so much. And now, when I come here, I see you yell me. It is fun. I am alone and I don't want anybody to understand me.

However, as for Wolf, his reaction could be undertandable. His pissed off attitude could be sympathized. He has enough reaons and excuses to be on fire. Fortunately, I can see that he has done his best to control his temper to the best of his. Even though Wolf's problems at schools and at home are just his own struggles for him to deal with, he has no right to drag them here and whin about them. This, I have to say it's another problem that he has to deal with. Having said that, I also understand that it's not his own will to talk about them in the first place. It's you, Guo Jia, you were the one who ignited the fire and who detonated the bomb to cause it to explode.

Furthermore, as for you, Guo Jia, you are insulting the nick you bear. You have to realize that you can never judge people before you walk at least a mile in their shoes. Point saying, how can you compare Cigarrete with Wolf through their words? Please do not tell me that there is a big difference between comparing and judging. If you have learned enough, if you have studied enough, and if you have matured enough, then I don't have to explain to you why there is no difference between judging and comparing.

Som recommendations for this topic:
1. Turn off the auto translating Vietnamese typing mode. It's really hard and confused when sometimes i try to type a word but it's automatic changed to Vietnamese, and then i have to delete and re-type.
2. Allow members can use abbreviation, like you as "u". It's much more interesting to learn someone's experiences about chat with this type of language.
3. Encourage some funny topics by giving more exps and mps for who has these ideas about that topic.
4. Open a chat room in some servers that they can get more chances to chit chat together. I think it will not affect our topics coz members in here will less post their threats and we can also get some more members from this chat room. I've got one, if you allow, i can help you to do this, but i also need your help to do this.
Some other recommandations but i haven't thought to yet. Lol!!!

Absolutely no. A lot of people come here just for relax or simply their favourite. Of course gathering more information and widening knowledge are the most important thing. If you wanna improve your English skills, you can practice them here as well. I don't think helping each other by correcting mistakes is a the best way. You can easily improve you skills by reading, viewing, and talking, discussing to each other.
Actually, I come here just for relaxation, English is one of my favourite though my English is not good at all >_<.
